All About Lashes

Eyelash Extensions are a cosmetic enhancement that involves attaching synthetic or natural hair fibers to the natural eyelashes to create a fuller, more dramatic look. They are applied by a professional using a specialized adhesive and can last for several weeks with proper care.

How to Prepare for Your Lash Appointment

If possible, avoid all eye makeup the day of your lash appointment. The cleaner your lashes are, the better !

Expect your first appointment to last at least an hour and a half and maybe up to three hours depending on the lash artist and the desired look!

Avoid caffeine right before the appointment!

How Long Do Lash Extensions Last

With proper care and application, you should expect to get a “fill” around 2-3 weeks. You should also have at least 50% of your lash extensions at the time of booking a fill appointment. Lash extensions that last 5+ weeks are most likely not placed correctly and can be causing damage to your natural lashes and hair follicle. With the natural hair growth cycle, your natural lashes should have naturally fallen out and been replaced by a new lash in that span of time.

✩ Lash Extension Aftercare ✩

⋆ Be gentle. Do not rub or pull on your eyelash extensions.
⋆ Avoid getting eyelash extensions wet for 24 hours after your full set and fill appointments.
⋆Make sure to use an oil-free makeup remover when removing any makeup around the eyes.
⋆ Keep all oil based products away from your extensions and remember that everything put on the face may travel to the eye area.
⋆ Please no mascara and absolutely no waterproof mascara.
⋆ Absolutely no eyelash curlers.
⋆ Excessive touching of the extensions can cause oil to transfer from your fingers to your lashes
⋆⋆ Oil and mascara will breakdown the adhesive and cause premature lash extensions loss

You Can’t Get Your Extensions Wet

Your Natural Lashes Won’t Grow Back

Natural Lash Anatomy

The average upper eyelid has between 90-150 natural eyelashes and are on average 10mm long. It’s important to take this into consideration as a lash artist to ensure you’re not putting too much weight or strain on the natural lashes and causing unwanted damage.

Causes of Natural Lash Damage

One of the most common causes of eyelash damage occurs when two or more natural lashes have adhered together. This happens when isolation is done poorly and the lash extension is placed on two or more natural lashes. This causes too much strain on the follicle and results in premature lash loss. This is called ‘Traction Alopecia’.

Other Causes of Lash Damage:
• Extra weight & torsion are added to the hair follicle if extensions are too long or thick
• Unsafe products are used
• Oils in unapproved makeup, makeup removers, cleansers, & mascaras
• Repeatedly pulling out eyelashes & extensions

Reactions & Sensitivities

If you’re prone to sensitive skin, you’re more likely to high sensitivity or allergic reaction to extension adhesive.

If any side effects occur during the process or immediately after, contact your artist and schedule a removal.

Recommended Length & Fullness of Lash Extensions

This is based completely on your natural lash. This should be discussed at the start of your appointment.

It’s recommended to go no more than 2-3 mm longer than your natural lashes
(completely dependent on the state of your natural lashes!) As mentioned earlier, natural lashes are on average 10mm long, so unless you’re blessed with lashes of a Goddess - you’re most likely not going to get lash extensions that are 15mm or longer without causing damage to your natural lashes.

The same goes with thickness (or density)! Classic lash extensions are considered “the safest” option because its a 1:1 ratio, meaning only one lash extension is placed on each natural lash. When adding volume fans to your natural lashes, if the health of your natural lash isn’t taken into consideration, you can add too much weight and cause natural lashes to break off.

Sometimes you may need to decide between length or fullness to keep your natural lashes healthy!
